book was in very good condition. great book.GoodThanksThis edition is GORGEOUS and the story is amazing! The Hunger Games Book 1 by Suzanne Collins is the beautiful and gripping story of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. From the start, this amazing book drew me in. The characters are well developed and wonderful. The plot is original and well-paced. The romance will satisfy those who like reading cute love stories, but will not bore a kid. There is plenty of action right from the start, but there is quite a lot of violence. Over the entire 374 pages, there is only one part that I do not like. Here is the passage that annoyed me: “He walks around my naked body, not touching me, but taking in every inch of it with his eyes.” By “me” they mean Katniss, who is a teenage girl! Very inappropriate! But this scene is NOT in the movie, so do not worry about watching the movie. Overall, this book is a powerful, action-packed story and perfect for anyone who loves a thriller/violent story of two teenagers. Well done Suzanne Collins, you are now on my favorite author list! I am looking forward to reading book 2 in this series.-BookLover (11-year-old girl)I read “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins because I wanted to read a book over Thanksgiving Break. This book is the first book in the Hunger Games series. It is about a dystopian city called Panem that is divided into 12 districts. Each district has its own advantages and disadvantages as well as different levels of poverty and economic diversification. Panem holds an event called The Hunger Games every year where each district nominates one boy and one girl in between the ages of 12 and 18 to compete in an arena. The competition is a battle to see which individual survives the longest. The tournament is also broadcasted across Panem. Katniss Everdeen and her little sister, Prim Rose, live in District 12, one of the poorest districts in Panem. One year, Prim Rose is picked to compete in The Hunger Games, but Katniss volunteers to replace her younger sister. Katniss and another boy named Peeta Mellark then enter the games with a former winner named Haymitch as their mentor. I read this book a very long time ago, and I wanted to re-read it. Re-reading it was an interesting experience because there were many dark concepts that Suzane Collins touched on that I don’t think I understood when I was younger. One theme that Susan Collins included in “The Hunger Games” was inequality. The city of Panem was heavily divided. The capital was in the center, and it was the richest part of Panem. Capital officials and people that lived in the Capital lived a luxurious life because they had access to money, food, and other forms of wealth. The individual districts, however, had limited resources and a lot of violence. Violence was seen when Capital troops tortured and killed protesters, and the more obvious example of violence was The Hunger Games where children literally fought to death. Collins also indicated many similarities between the dystopian future in “The Hunger Games” and society today. There is high income inequality, obsession with the media, starvation and poverty, and violence today. For example, poorer neighborhoods and cities of color don’t have access to resources/opportunities and are over-policed while richer neighborhoods and cities have many more privileges. This disproportionately harms minority communities everyday similar to how the districts of Panem struggled to live and prosper everyday. If you like futuristic and dystopian novels (like “Divergent”, “Maze Runner”, and “The Giver”), then you should definitely read “The Hunger Games”. It is very unique and keeps readers hooked on throughout the entire book. It also makes readers want to read the other two books in the series called “Catching Fire” and “Mocking Bird”. The reading level is for young adults and adults.in my opinion people should read this book. One of the main feelings you experience is love. this book is unpredictable. You never want to stop reading because of the nonstop cliffhangers. In a review from a person named PS she/ he said that "it was obvious about their duty of being the first in a series." I do agree with what he says but i like it when book are so obviously the first book in the series because it makes me want to suspect more from this author and the great literature she rights. In the story Katniss loves two men: Peeta and Gale. With loving two men it made it difficult to play along just loving Peeta to get sponsors. this changes the plot tremendously because if she didn't play along she could not get any sponsors and could have lost the whole hunger games. Everything in this book was very unpredictable in the book when Rue gets killed Katniss's point of view changes. We now see her lose someone who got close to her and she knows see the careers as the antagonists in the games. Through the book there are non-stop cliffhangers. For starters when prim gets picked to be in the games and Katniss volunteers as tribute you don't want to put down the book because the plot just changed dramatically from staying safe in the district to be drafted to the deadliest sport in the world. My favorite character in the book is Haymitch because he has a great influence on Katniss and Peeta. Not only does he have a great influence he has also survived the hunger games which makes his point of view on the hunger games different then everyone else's because he knows what its like to go to each district and to be treated horribly. What you did and maybe there friend or family member would still be alive. My favorite quote in the book is Peeta blushes beet red and stammers out. “Because…because…she came here with me.” Peeta’s announcement of his love. Katniss can’t realize if he is just saying he loves her for strategy or for his heart. since then she has been trying to figure out and still is even in the ends. the reason this is my favorite quote is because it changes everything because now everyone wants to see them survive and make their love story carry on.this is one of the best series i have ever read!!! i read so much so the bar was already really high, but it just blew through. I read the entire series already and am obsessed. I did watch the movies first but that didn't change anything for me. I have convinced all my friends to read it and they fell in love with them to!! such an amazing plot and very well written! Highly recommend“You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.”Name: Hunger GamesAuthor: Suzanne CollinsGenre: YA, Dystopian, Adventure, Drama, Action, Thriller, ApocalypticRating: 4.1/5Review:"MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR"Set in a dystopian world of Panem (post apocalyptic North America), where twelve districts surround the Capitol.Every year, a deadly tournament called Hunger Games are held, where two representative from each district fight each other till death. The winning district gets privileges and resources from the Capitol. In District 12, sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen is the only one to look after her family. She volunteers for the Hunger Games, when her younger sister, Primrose is chosen as the female tribute from District 12 for the tournament.Katniss knows that she cannot die, that she has to come back for her sister. Fighting for survival has become a second nature for Katniss since her father's death. She is moved to the Capitol with Peeta Mellark, the male tribute from District 12.Will the odds be ever in Katniss' favour? She joins with Peeta and Haymitch, a previous victor from District 12. What will happen to Katniss? It is one of my favourite post-apocalyptic novels in the YA genre. I really like the character of Peeta Mellark. The personality of Katniss is relatable, she sacrifices a lot for her sister. The ending was absolutely fascinating. It is one of the must read books at least once in a lifetime. I must say I really enjoyed the movie adaptation of this book as well.Further Reading:The Maze Runner by James DashnerI am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
